Honeywell has released an Industry 4.0-ready fixed point gas detector that leverages Bluetooth connectivity to make set-up, maintenance and compliance reporting faster and easier – and utilizes Honeywell’s proprietary sensing technologies to ensure maximum protection for both plant and personnel.

The new Sensepoint XRL fixed gas detector monitors industrial operations for toxic or combustible gases. Sensepoint XRL is Bluetooth-enabled, meaning it can be completely set-up and maintained remotely using a smartphone app (Download from Google Play).

“Setting up, maintaining and generating reports from a fixed gas detector has usually been a time-consuming effort involving ladders or lifts, multiple personnel, temporary equipment or even production shutdowns,” said Duncan Gooch, product manager, gas detection, for Honeywell Analytics. “With new Bluetooth connectivity, a single worker can quickly carry out a range of tasks – wirelessly from up to 33 feet away – including set-up, routine maintenance, and reporting – in hazardous areas – from the safety of ground level.” It includes several remote gassing options for units mounted in difficult to access locations.

The detector monitors for hazardous levels of one targeted gas – including 23 toxic as well as combustible gases, these include methane, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide. The detector is IP 66-rated and uses a metal enclosure engineered for rugged use, including hose downs.

When paired with a Sonim intrinsically safe smartphone, a single worker can interface wirelessly within classified areas and within extreme outdoor environments (temp range −40 to 65 °C). A Sensepoint XRL working with the smartphone app also substantially streamline the generation of system reports necessary for safety and environmental regulatory compliance.

Sensepoint XRL is certified for explosive area applications, and is suitable for wastewater, utilities, power generation, laboratories, and downstream oil and gas operations as well as applications ranging from laboratories, boiler rooms, fuelling stations and warehouses.

Sensepoint XRL is part of Honeywell’s Sensepoint line of connected gas detectors, announced in earlier this year, which also includes the Sensepoint XCL for commercial and light-industrial applications, the OELD Smart Junction box for the Optima Plus IR Gas Sensor is also part of Honeywell’s expanding bluetooth connected portfolio of safeguarding products. Forward thinking operators who have embraced the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Industry 4.0 are utilizing smart devices within their operations in order to optimize safety, process, and productivity – Honeywell is leading this revolution with these and more next-generation field safeguarding solutions.
