Strict and specific laws exist regarding Working Alone – see below for more information.
Provincial and Federal Regulations:
Alberta | British Columbia | Canada [CCOHS]
Canada has both Federal and Provincial regulations to protect lone workers, workers in isolation and/or dangerous environments. Companies and individuals who fail to comply with these regulations can experience increased insurance premiums, fines, legal action or even criminal charges. By deploying a lone worker monitoring solution, businesses often meet or exceed regional legislation and can optimize their communication and process execution when paired with an intrinsically safe, ruggedized Sonim phone, Xplore tablet or an inReach Satellite communicator.
Fines can range based on first offence and subsequence offences with some provinces including a per day fine for outstanding infractions. Fines are steep and go as high as $1 000 000 for a first offence and can be levied against the corporation as well as the individuals responsible for enforcing the program.
