The Honeywell ER5000 supplies five (EBA-5) or ten (EBA-10) minutes of emergency breathing air, giving your workers the time they need to safely escape from toxic or oxygen-deficient atmospheres. The assembled device is fully contained in a carry pouch and is composed of a refillable cylinder, valve and pressure gauge assembly, breathing tube, protective air hood, and regulator.
For escape situations that require greater exertion (walking up stairs, climbing, etc.) Honeywell offers an EBA (EBA-HF5) with higher air flowfor more comfortable breathing. It features a 5-minute, 15 cubic foot, lightweight aluminum cylinder and a regulator that delivers air to the hood at the higher flow rate of 72 liters per minute.

Question: Where would I typically need an Emergency Escape Breathing Apparatus (EBA)?
Answer: EBAs are located in areas where breathable air may suddenly change to hazardous air. Industries include Oil & Gas, Chemical Processing, Forestry, Manufacturing Mining, Pharmaceutical, Utilities, Water Treatment as well as general industry.
Question: How do I know if I need 5-minute or 10-minute duration?
Answer: This is determined by calculating your escape route under an orderly escape situation. However, it is always recommended to err on the side of caution and provide adequate air for escape.
Question: What is the 5-Minute High Flow EBA (EBA-HF5)?
Answer: For escape situations that require greater exertion (walking up stairs, climbing, etc.) you may choose a high flow system. The higher air flow offers a more comfortable breathing experience in a high stress situation. Honeywell’s ER5000 series includes a High Flow EBA (EBA-HF5), which features a 5-minute, 15 cubic foot, lightweight aluminum cylinder and a regulator that delivers air to the hood at the higher flow rate of 72 liters per minute.
Question: Can any of the ER5000 EBAs be used to enter and work in a hazardous area?
Answer: No, the ER5000 EBA-5, EBA-HF5, and EBA-10 are NIOSH approved to be used for escape only.
Question: Is fit testing required for the ER5000 EBAs?
Answer: No, fit testing is not required because the ER5000 EBAs (EBA-5, EBA-HF5, and EBA-10) all feature a loose fitting hood. According to Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 1910.134, fit testing is not required for loose fitting hoods.
Question: Can someone with a beard and/or glasses use the ER5000 EBA?
Answer: Yes, the ER5000 hood is designed to be worn and easily donned by individuals with beards and/or glasses.
Question: Is a different system required for training?
Answer: No, a different system is not required for training. You can use your ER5000 for training; however, it is recommended to have replacement/extra hoods on hand. Hoods can be wiped inside with any mask wipe.
Question: Can the ER5000 cylinders be refilled?
Answer: Yes, the ER5000 cylinders are able to be refilled.
Question: What type of inspection does my ER5000 need to comply with OSHA standards?
Answer: OSHA requires a monthly visual inspection of the EBA gauge to verify that air is in the green “full” zone.
Question: How often does my ER5000 cylinder need to be flow tested and hydrostatically tested?
Answer: Per manufacturer’s recommendations, the ER5000 cylinder should be flow tested annually. Per the US Department of Transportation (DOT), aluminum cylinders must be hydrostatically tested every 5 years by a licensed cylinder tester in accordance with specifications.
Question: Are ER5000 replacement parts available for purchase/repair?
Answer: Yes, replacement parts are available. Refer to the technical data sheet or user instructions for a complete list of part numbers.
