ExR‑2.5 – UL 6260 Certified Inspection Robot for Hazardous Locations
The ExR‑2.5 is the first UL 6260 certified inspection robot designed for hazardous environments, combining emissions monitoring, gas leak detection, and asset condition monitoring in a single platform.
The only inspection robot built to U.S. certification standards for Class I, Div. 2 / Zone 1 environments, the ExR‑2.5 uses a rugged tracked platform and a modular multi-sensor payload to perform routine inspections — removing workers from harm’s way while mitigating risk and maximizing uptime.
- Featuring multiple payload options, including thermal imaging, optical gas imaging (OGI), acoustic sensors, point gas detection, and HD cameras
- Automates routine inspection rounds, emissions monitoring, thermal, acoustic and visual equipment checks in explosive atmospheres
- Backed by MicroWatt’s hazardous location and gas detection expertise across North America
Environmental and weather performance
The ExR‑2.5 is built for continuous operations in harsh environments where oil and gas operators, petrochemical facilities, and other heavy industries rely on rugged, certified equipment to work safely.
- UL 6260 certified for Class I, Div 2 / Zone 1, Groups C and D
- Certified ambient temperature range from −35°C to +45°C (−31°F to 113 °F), supporting tropical, and cold‑weather installations
- Enclosures and sealing designed for high ingress protection against dust, rain, and powerful water spray, enabling reliable operation in wet, dirty, and corrosive environments
- Materials and coatings selected to withstand exposure to hydrocarbons, process chemicals, hydrogen sulphide, and salt‑laden air.
Navigation and autonomy
The ExR‑2.5 combines LiDAR, cameras, and onboard AI to safely navigate tight, cluttered process areas – no digital twin required.
- Navigates narrow corridors and sharp corners in complex process units
- Follows pre‑defined routes and inspection rounds with repeatable checkpoints for consistent, auditable data
- Uses LiDAR‑based localization and obstacle detection to avoid collisions and automatically adjust routes, maintaining mission continuity even as site conditions change
Mission availability and power
The ExR‑2.5 is engineered for high availability on remote or normally unmanned facilities, reducing the need for manual rounds and truck rolls.
- Performs missions lasting between 2 and 6 hours, depending on route length and sensor usage
- Automatically returns to its Class 1, Div 2/ Zone 1 docking station for self‑charging between missions
Sensing and payload flexibility
Equipped with a modular, upgradeable sensor suite, the ExR‑2.5 supports multiple roles—from predictive maintenance and operator rounds to emissions detection and first response.
- Multifunction PTZ module with 30× optical zoom camera, thermal IR camera, high‑intensity LED, and video camera for detailed visual and thermal inspections
- Integrated gas detection with configurable point gas sensors and optional OGI and TDLS modules for methane and emissions detection
- Customizable sensor bay to add site‑specific payloads, including additional cameras, microphones, or specialized detectors
- AI‑powered anomaly detection to flag changes in temperature, sound, gas levels, and visual indicators, helping operators identify issues earlier and prioritize maintenance
