The QUASAR Model M8100SM-EXP Flare Stack Smoke Monitor provides continuous monitoring of flare stack smoke levels from remote locations up to ¼ mile (400 m) away in nearly any climate condition. This makes it ideal for use in automated smoke control systems designed to keep flare stack smoke emissions within EPA mandated levels.
- Flame detection up to 400 m
- Detection of hydrocarbon as well as hydrogen flames
- CSA/US and ATEX explosion-proof housing
- Safety and environmental protection
- Automatic gain control for adverse weather conditions
- High quality sight-through optics
- On-board alarm set point relay
- Modular opto-electronic package for easy removal from housing
- IR pyrometer and amplification circuitry in one single module
This unique Pilot Flame Detection System is designed for continuous duty monitoring of pilot flames on flare stacks. The heart of the system is the QUASAR Model M8100PM-EXP multi-wavelength, non-contact infrared thermometer which can be removed from the explosion proof housing for repairs or replacement, leaving intact all wiring and alignment of system. A sight-through optical system and selection of various spot sizes enables the QUASAR to be positioned as far as 1300 feet from the stack being monitored, allowing for flame movement, varying luminosity and most climate conditions. Alignment on the flame is accomplished through superb sight-through optics and the M-3 Swivel Mount. Alarm contact closure, delay adjustment and 4-20 mA output can be customized for a specific location or application, eliminating false alarms due to intermittent flames. A single internally oven-heated detector assures long-term stability and drift-free operation. The system is complete with internal water base, swivel mount and airpurge tube.
All objects above absolute zero emit infrared (IR) energy. The amount of energy emitted is proportional to the body temperature. The QUASAR Model 8100PM-EXP collects this energy by means of a focusing optical system concentrating the energy from a body onto a sensitive infrared detector. Specialized amplification circuitry converts the signal received by the detector into a DC level to activate relay and mA outputs for signal/no signal indications.
The QUASAR utilizes pulse synchronized amplitude correction circuitry which, when initially set, will automatically correct for diminishing radiation amplitude due to weather conditions. When total loss of signal occurs while measuring product, an adjustable delay timing circuit starts a count-down to activate “loss of signal alarm ” outputs. This delay enables the flame to come back on or in sight in cases of high winds and or total blockage from trucks or the like.
The alarm outputs are a Normal Open or Normal Closed relay and a 4-20 mA circuit that is 4 mA or less with signal and 20 mA with no signal.
All electrical and optical components of the QUASAR Model 8100PM-EXP, are housed in a single CSA AND CENELEC APPROVED enclosure with a hazardous location classification of Class 1, Division 1, Groups C and D; Class 1, Division 2, Groups A through D; and EExd IIB T4. |
